The S&P 500 YTD has seen the highest percentage of trading days with an intraday price move of +/-1% in the last decade - 81% of all trading days
So far, 2022 has produced 101 days of this volatility which ties with 2018, almost beats 2015, and seems to be on track to break 2020’s number by years end
Additionally, the average YTD intraday percent high stands at +0.8% which is the second-highest average move only behind 2020 with an average of +0.87%
The average YTD intraday percent low currently stands at (1.15%) which is the highest average daily decrease in the last decade, ahead of 2020 at (0.82%)
With so much uncertainty of continued inflation, rising rates, recessionary concerns, and panic selling, it seems inevitable that this level of volatility will continue
Until next time,
