Quick Note
As I look to make this newsletter as value-additive as I can, I’m always looking to improve the content that I send to you all. With that in mind, I’ve already launched a new series called “Trend to Watch” and now I’m introducing “Chart of the Week”.
This is something that I will try and send once a week (never more) where I breakdown a chart into a few bullets to accomplish one of three things:
Keep you informed
Introduce a possible thematic investment idea
Tease an idea that I will write an in-depth analysis on
It could very well be all three but the mission is to, again, add value where I can.
Americans Really Do Love Bottled Water
For more than a decade, consumers have been increasingly choosing bottled water. And the gap is widening, with per capita consumption of carbonated soft drinks dropping by 10 gallons since 2010, while bottled water increased by 17.4 gallons.
On average, each American drank 45.2 gallons of bottled water in 2020, a 3.5 percent increase over the previous year. In addition, bottled water’s retail dollar sales grew in 2020, up 4.7 percent, reaching $36.3 billion.
Nearly all of the bottled water sold in the U.S. is sourced domestically. In fact, imported bottled water accounts for only 1.9% of the U.S. market.
Despite being continuously monitored for safety reasons and being much cheaper than bottled water ($1 - $4 vs. a penny for tap), only around 10 percent of Americans drank tap or filtered water exclusively that year.
One last thing!
